Author Instructions

Preparation and publication requirements for DSMIE conference papers and cooperating journal submissions.

DSMIE supports two publication tracks. Authors should follow the requirements of the publication route selected for their submission.

Track 1 — Conference paper in Lecture Notes in Mechanical Engineering

These instructions apply to conference papers prepared for publication in the Lecture Notes in Mechanical Engineering book series.

Formatting and scope

  • Papers must follow the official Springer paper template and formatting requirements. Manuscripts using another format may be rejected without review.
  • The submission must correspond to the Conference Topics.
  • The minimum paper length is 10 pages and the standard maximum is 12 pages, including figures, tables, and references.
  • Papers shorter than 10 pages may be rejected.
  • Pages beyond 12 are subject to an additional fee of EUR 75 per page.
  • The absolute maximum paper length is 15 pages.

Originality and language

  • Submissions are checked for text similarity using iThenticate.
  • Papers with an unacceptable level of copied or insufficiently original material will not be accepted for publication.
  • All papers are checked for English-language quality.

Authors and metadata

The paper title, abstract, author names, affiliations, and author order must match the information entered in the submission system.

The use of ORCID identifiers for all co-authors is recommended.

Use Title Case for the paper title. Academic titles and descriptions of academic positions should not be included in the manuscript author line.

Only one email address should be shown in the paper: the address of the Corresponding Author. Conference communication is conducted through the Corresponding Author.

The number of co-authors is limited to five. One person may submit no more than two papers, and only one of them may list that person as first author.

Abstract and keywords

The abstract should be approximately 150–250 words and provide a concise summary of the study, including its purpose, methods, scientific contribution, practical relevance, and principal results.

The abstract should represent the content of the paper accurately and should not introduce unsupported results or exaggerate the conclusions.

Keywords should not simply repeat words or phrases already used in the paper title.

Conference papers should normally use the following structure:

  1. Introduction
  2. Literature Review
  3. Research Methodology
  4. Results and Discussion
  5. Conclusions
  6. Acknowledgment, if necessary

Introduction

The Introduction should place the study in a broader context, explain its importance, and clearly define the objective of the work. Where applicable, state the hypotheses being tested.

The section should remain understandable to readers working outside the immediate research topic.

Literature Review

The Literature Review should describe the current state of the research field and discuss relevant key publications. Conflicting approaches or hypotheses should be addressed where appropriate.

Authors are encouraged to use recent peer-reviewed literature indexed in major scholarly databases. Sources should be discussed critically rather than cited only as a group.

A reference list of approximately 15–25 sources is recommended.

Research Methodology

The Research Methodology should contain enough information for other researchers to understand, reproduce, and build on the work.

New methods and protocols should be described in sufficient detail. Established methods may be described briefly with appropriate references.

Where software is used, specify its name and version and indicate whether relevant source code is available when appropriate.

Results and Discussion

The Results and Discussion section should present the findings clearly and interpret them in relation to the research objectives, previous studies, and working hypotheses.

Authors should discuss the broader implications of the results, identify relevant limitations, and may outline directions for future research.

Conclusions

The Conclusions should summarize the principal findings and, where appropriate, include both qualitative and quantitative results. Future research plans may also be stated.

Acknowledgment

If applicable, the Acknowledgment section should identify funding sources or other support that contributed to the research.

References

Self-citation should be limited and justified by direct relevance to the submitted work.

Springer-style references should use consecutive numbering in square brackets. Where available, include the DOI.

Typical reference types include journal articles, chapters in edited proceedings, books, and conference proceedings.

Authors should ensure that all references comply with the conference publication and research-integrity requirements.

Figures

Use high-quality figures with a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

Track 2 — Research paper in a cooperating journal

Research papers submitted through the journal publication track must follow the Guide for Authors of the selected Cooperating Journal.

Each submission is first screened for compatibility with the journal’s scope and then evaluated for its quality and scientific content. Based on this assessment, the manuscript may be recommended for further consideration by the selected journal.
